Testing for language school students

About

Our RAPID clinic will soon be open 11-2pm each Wednesday for students that attend English Language Schools in Brisbane and surrounding areas. Our clinic at Level 1, 725 Ann St, Fortitude Valley will have team members than can speak languages other than English.

If you are a language school student, you do not need to have medical insurance (or Medicare), but must have a current student identification card (ID) from a local English Language School to be able to access testing within these hours.

If you aren't a language school student or can't attend within the special opening hours, you can visit RAPID within it's regular hours for testing. It's free for everyone, always.

What can I test for?

Our highly trained peer testers can do testing for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Please see the eligibility below, as sometimes we may not be able to test you.

You must have a current student identification card (ID) from a English Language School to be able to access testing within these hours. If you aren't a language school student you can visit RAPID within it's regular hours for testing.

You must be a student of an
English Language School in Queensland
with a current student ID card.

Our testing service isn't able to test people who are under the age of 16. You must see GP/doctor or Sexual Health Clinic and may need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

You must be at least 16 years old.

We are a symptom-free testing service and are not doctors or nurses. See a GP/doctor or sexual health service for assessment, testing and treatment. The faster you see a doctor, the quicker addressing your symptoms.

We cannot test if you have had STI-related symptoms such as burning, itching, stinging, or leaking - now or within the last three days.

Treatment for chlamydia is very effective, but the dead copies of the bacteria takes four weeks for your body to remove after finishing treatment. Testing within this period will still detect these dead cells, so please wait four weeks from the end of your treatment to test again.

If you have had treatment for chlamydia in the past four weeks, it is too soon to test again.

Treatment for gonorrhoea is very effective, but the dead copies of the bacteria takes two weeks for your body to remove after finishing treatment. Testing within this period will still detect these dead cells, so please wait two weeks from the end of your treatment to test again.

If you have had treatment for gonorrhoea in the past two weeks, it is too soon to test again.

Our test only detects syphilis antibodies. If you have been previously diagnosed with syphilis, you will test positive on our test. Go see a s100 Prescriber or Sexual Health Clinic to request testing for syphilis and let them know you have had syphilis previously.

We cannot test you for syphilis
if you have tested positive
previously for syphilis.

If someone you had sex with in the last 3 months has told you they have recently tested positive for syphilis, you will need to receive a clinical assessment for possible presumptive treatment. Go see a s100 Prescriber, or Sexual Health Clinic and let them know you are a syphilis contact.

We cannot test you for syphilis if you have been recently contact traced for syphilis.

For the wellbeing of our staff and clients, please consider waiting until your symptoms are resolved - or you may be asked to kindly wear a mask while in the clinic.

Consider postponing your visit, or wearing a mask, if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or Influenza.

If you need testing or have concerns about other infections, please see your GP/doctor or local Sexual Health Clinic.

RAPID provides testing for only HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

This could be for a PrEP script, if you need a doctors certificate, or if you require a written result for immigration or another legal reason.  Only doctors can provide written results, so see a GP/doctor or Sexual Health Clinic if this is your reason for testing.

If you need a prescription or written result you must see a GP instead of testing with RAPID.

We are often busy and the wait can be a little lengthy at times.  As we can only fit a certain number of clients into our clinics, we need to close the clinic when we reach capacity.  We apologise in advance if this impacts you. You can search for other places that offer testing here.

We can get very busy, so it may be a bit of a wait. We might not be able to test you if the clinic is at capacity.

Our policy is to see clients individually for privacy and confidentiality reasons. However, if you have a carer or professional support person you would like to be present with you in the clinic room, please let staff know.

Please notify our team if you require a carer in the clinic room with you.
